Nurse of the Year (2010)

BARBARA JO SMITH, RN                

Barbara joined the SDBNA in 1998. She immediately became an active member participating in Community Health Events. She has served as Financial Secretary (2003-2006), on the Scholarship Committee (2006-2009), and as Membership/Recruitment Chair (2005-2010). She says one of the, most rewarding accomplishments was the 2010 "100 Membership Campaign" where the membership increased to 104. Barbara is passionate about the "Student's Annual Scholarship Awards". Every year she presents the "Dimple W. Wesson Scholarship", in Memory of her Mother, to one of our Nursing Students. She feels this is one of the greatest ways to remember her mother and help another individual realize their dream. Barbara has been employed 38 years at Scripps Mercy Hospital, Chula Vista. During those years, she has worked in many departments. Areas that she has worked includes: Med-Surg, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Neurology, Med/Surg ICU, Telemetry and Out-Patient-Surgical Preparation Area. She is presently working in the out-patient, Endoscopy Unit. She is &qout;Semi-Retired" and yet very active doing what she loves most, being a nurse. Barbara wishes to thank all for their Love, Support and is honored to be selected "Nurse of the Year".
