Welcome to the San Diego Black Nurses Association
web page. Thank you for taking time to visit our website. We hope that
you will find ease in navigating this site and you will gain a better
insight about who we are and what we do.
SDBNA continue to play and intricate role in the
community administering flu vaccines to seniors, those without health
care coverage and the underserved. We also perform blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol
screenings. We collaborate with other health care providers and non
profits organizations to promote health care and disease preventions
through health fairs, lectures and distribution of literature related to
but not limited to, health care issues that affect the African American
community.
Annually we award scholarships to students pursing
a career in nursing. We also mentor nursing students in all disciplines
of their education endeavor. This year we awarded over 8,000 dollars to twelve
recipients. We encourage
nursing education and career advancement.
It is my honor to serve as the 14th
President of such a wonderful group of Registered Nurse, Licensed
Vocational Nurses, and Doctorate prepared nurses. I am equally honored
to preside over a large group of retired nurses who continues to serve in
the organization and in the community.
Our meeting are held the Second Saturday of every
month with the exception of February and December which is when our
Annual Event and Annual Prayer Breakfast are held. We meet at Encanto
Southern Baptist Church 6020 Akins Avenue, San Diego, CA 92114. The
Executive Board meets from 0800-1000 am and the general membership
meeting is from 10:00-12:00 noon.
Sincerely Yours
Sharon T. Smith, RN, MSN, FNP
